Anita Sharif-Hyder is a woman who’s held my heart for years. I’ve had her set of strong, simple incantations running through my head since she sent them to me earlier this month.

Anita’s sorted out what’s good and important in life, how to manage pain and disappointment, how to prioritize joy, how to shine in the most dull and dark of places. I remember all of that as I read these.

From Anita:

Words matter. Actions count.

Composure under pressure.

Say what you mean, do what you say.

Think before you speak.

Teachable moments. Periods of reflection.

What is it that you intend to do and what impact will it have?

Focus on what is immediately in front of you, since you can’t control what’s around you.

Be prepared for the unexpected, though be present in the moment.

Surround yourself with positivity. Find joy in the simplicity.

Prioritize what is important. Give yourself to those you care for.

Be mindful of harm that may be lurking around the corner.

Speak up. Rise up.

Self-care.

Remind yourself of your intent.

Repeat.
